INDIA GREEN SIGNALS TO 2 NEW VACCINES AND ONE 1 ANTIVIRAL DRUG

India given approval to two new vaccines and one antiviral drug, know more about the latest information about the vaccines in detail below .

(The Quiver) The emergence of the highly transmissible Omicron variant has put the world in a renewed battle against COVID-19. In India, many states have announced night curfew around this time to prevent crowding at public places during the New Year.

 Within all these a good too has arrived. India has allowed two more vaccines and one anti-viral drug to boost the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The two latest vaccines cleared by India are Corbevax and Covovax . The anti-viral drug Molnupiravir also got confirmations, it can be used for emergency treatments of patients.

Corbevax vaccine is known to be India’s first homegrown “RBD protein sub-unit vaccine”. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “It’s a hat-trick! It’s now third vaccine developed in Indiaā€¯. Corbevax vaccine is made by the Hyderabad based biotectnology and biopharmaceutical company- Biological-E. Limited.

The other two vaccines developed in India previously are Bharat      Biotech’s Covaxin and the Serum Institute of India’s (SII) Covishield.

The nanoparticle vaccine, Covovax, will be manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India. The anti-viral drug Molnupiravir will be manufactured in India by 13 companies. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in association with Cipla, Mylan, Torrent, Emcure and Sun Pharma have presented their proposal for approval of anti-viral drug Molnupiravir for emergency situation. This antiviral drug has restricted uses, only it can be used under emergency situation. This will be used in treatment of adult patients with COVID-19 and others who seems to be highly infected by the disease.

In latest, India has given approvals to total number of eight COVID-19 vaccines – Covishield, Covaxin, ZyCoV-D, Sputnik V, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, Corbevax and Covovax. They have got emergency use authorisation from India’s drug regulator.

India will start administering COVID-19 booster shots to healthcare, frontline workers and those above 60 with comorbidities from January 10. Those aged 15-18 would start receiving their COVID-19 vaccinations from January 3.
