Today India Started Its First Ever Vaccination Drive For Children Between 15-18 Years

Over 16 lakh teenagers between 15 to 18 years of age received their first Covid shots,A large number of schools and other educational institutions are being used as vaccination centres as well.

(The Quiver) India began its very first vaccination driver for children belonging to age group of 15 to 18 years from today, January 3, onlooking present situation of the country witnessing a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases, the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Over 16 lakh teenagers between 15 to 18 years of age received their first Covid shots as immunisation for the age group started today. The vaccination drive is being carried out in consultation with schools at hospitals and health centres.

A large number of schools and other educational institutions are being used as vaccination centres as well.

Those born in 2007 and before are eligible for the vaccine. Nearly 27 lakh teenagers have registered for their jabs so far, as per the latest data on CoWIN website.

Over six lakh registrations in the CoWIN app was already done by Sunday evening . The vaccine option for this age group would be indigenously-developed Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. The states will have to adhere to guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry on December 27.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya advised states and Union Territories to provide separate vaccination centres, session sites, queues and different vaccination teams for the 15-18 year age group to avoid a mix-up.

On December 24, the Drugs Controller General of India granted emergency use authorisation to Covaxin for children above 12 years with certain conditions.
