 (The Quiver) Time to give farewell to BlackBerry in new year of 2022. The smartphone which once used to rule the tech industry because of its smooth keyboard centric designs and unique services like providing a high degree of confidentiality and anonymity. Now the company has announced to end its support for major BlackBerry OS from today onwards. The company will no longer provide its significant services on these existing devices.

Blackberry announced to stop its providing services for its existing devices like BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 7.1 OS, BlackBerry10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 along with the previous versions too.

From January 4, the smartphones will not support the provisioning services which means these devices will not be able to function the following – WiFi connections, data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality.

While the OS for smartphones is coming to an end, the company said that applications for BlackBerry Link, BlackBerry Desktop Manager and BlackBerry Blend, will also have limited functionality.

The company also mentioned that BBM Enterprise and BBM Enterprise for Individual Use (BBMe) will continue to be available on other platforms.

Reports shows that in the past, the company has experienced a slow decline in the market. In 2013, BlackBerry tried to reboot itself with a new OS, which failed and then the company tried to switch it in 2015 to make Android devices. But that failed, too. Being unable to cope up with the unbearable losses led to the sudden shutdown of this popular smartphone brand.

Alas, no one would have ever thought that the era of Blackberry ended all of so sudden.
