COVID ENGULFING RISING ODISHA

(The Quiver)New fresh Omicron cases are increasing rapidly across the country. The country is already struggling with third wave of covid-19. India reported 58,097 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 55 per cent higher than yesterday’s 37,379 cases. The country reported some 9,000 cases on December 28, so the count has now gone up more than six times in just nine days. Presently, India has 2,135 cases of the Omicron variant – the most in Maharashtra with 653 cases, followed by Delhi with 464 cases.

The third seems to have strike Odisha very hard as Odisha recorded the highest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases in nearly five months on Wednesday after 1,216 people tested positive for the virus, informed the State Information and Public Relations Department (I&PR).

 Odisha has recorded as many as 40 cases of Omicron variant till now. Highest number of positive cases of covid-19 in the state in the last two days are reported from khordha with a number of 456, followed by Sundargarh with a number of 166, in Sambalpur 99 and in Cuttack 80.

Angul- 6, Balasore-2, Bargarh-21, Bhadrak- 6, Balangir- 14, Boudh- 1, Deogarh -8, Dhenkanal -4, Gajapati -1, Ganjam- 9, Jagatsinghpur-13, Jajpur – 47, Jharsuguda: 33, Kalahandi -4, Kendrapada- 9, Keonjhar-25, Koraput- 3, Mayurbhanj-40, Nawarangpur-13, Nayagarh- 3, Nuapada- 2, Puri-30, Rayagada – 8, Sonepur- 3

Odisha so far has tested 2,57,52,819 samples, including 51,745in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19. At present, the test positivity rate (TPR) stands at 4.1percent, the I&PR department said.

Two deaths from the virus infection are reported from Khordha district. Active cases in Odisha is recorded to be 3,981 and number of recoveries are found to be 10,45,376.
