(The Quiver)Rafael Nadal pulled off a comeback for the ages to beat Daniil Medvedev and clinched his historic 21st Grand Slam title, the most by any men’s singles player in history. Before the match, Nadal was tied with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on the all-time titles list in men’s singles.

It was the second-longest Australian Open final after Novak Djokovic beat Nadal in five sets in 5 hours and 53 minutes in 2012. With the 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 win that started Sunday night and was delayed for a while in the second set when a protester jumped onto the court, Nadal also becomes just the fourth man in history to win all four of the sport’s major titles at least twice.

Riding a wave of raucous support from the crowd, a vintage Nadal pulled off one of his finest performances to deny Medvedev again, less than three years after leaving the Russian heartbroken in five sets at the 2019 U.S. Open final.
