AFGHANISTAN’S FORMER FINANCE MINISTER, KHALID PAYENDA NOW AN UBER DRIVER

(The Quiver) : Afghanistan’s former Finance Minister, Khalid Payenda, now makes a living as an Uber driver in Washington. An article published in The Washington Post made such revelation.

Payenda quit after President Ashraf Ghani attacked him in a public gathering just a week before the Taliban took control over Kabul. He had no idea at the time that the government had fallen to the Taliban.

When asked about his daily earnings, the 40-year-old former finance minister said he earned “a little over $150 for six hours’ labour, not counting my commute a mediocre night”.

Even months after the terrible fall of Afghanistan, Payenda stated he bears responsibility for the quick downfall of Afghanistan .He blamed himself and his fellow Afghans for the Taliban’s rapid takeover of the democratically elected Afghanistan’s government .

Speaking over Afghanistan unity he explained , “We didn’t have the collective will to reform, to be serious.”

After coming to the US, Payenda only happiness was to reunite with his family.

Besides blaming himself and his fellow Afghans for losing Afghanistan to Taliban , he also held responsible the Americans for handing the country over to the Taliban. The Taliban last August took control of Afghanistan after President Joe Biden ended the 20-year military mission in Afghanistan.
Explaining his present situation he said, “It eats at you from the inside out .Right now, I don’t have anywhere to stay .I’m not supposed to be here, and I’m not supposed to be there. It’s a depressing sensation.”
