MATHS, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY ARE NOT COMPULSORY FOR ADMISSION IN ONE-THIRD OF THE ENGINEERING COURSES

(The Quiver) : All India Council Of Technical Education (AICTE) announced that maths is no more mandatory to apply for one-third of engineering courses, including architecture, fashion technology and bio-technology.

Physics, chemistry and maths will no longer be mandatory subjects for admission to undergraduate courses in architecture, according to the approval process handbook for 2022–23 released by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Based on this, AICTE reviewed the situation for the 2022-23 handbook and decided to make PCM optional for three courses – Architecture, Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology. “We had constituted an expert committee to make recommendations on admissions for which courses PCM can be made optional. On the basis of the panel’s recommendations, three courses have been chosen,” stated a senior official from AICTE.Students who have studied computer science, electronics, information technology, biology, informatics practices, biotechnology, technical vocational subject, agriculture, engineering graphics, business studies and entrepreneurship are eligible for admission in the three courses mentioned.

The technical education body has also decided to reserve two seats per course for COVID orphaned children under the PM Cares scheme in affiliated polytechnic institutions for the upcoming academic session of 2022-23.

The handbook also stated,”Two supernumerary seats shall be accorded by the AICTE in its approved institutions for empowering gifted and talented students to seek admissions against these seats, which will provide a motivating and unique opportunity for such students in line with NEP (National Education Policy) recommendations.”
