Bhubaneswar (The Quiver): A land that is rich in culture, heritage, monumental brilliance, iconic mandirs, and plentyfull natural resources. Being an odia, we must know everything about why we observe april 1st as odisha foundation day.
Utkala Dibasa is celebrated on April 1 every year to remember the formation of the Odisha state after a struggle to be recognised as an independent state. During the British rule, Odisha was part of the Bengal presidency, which on the present-day are Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. The state was separated from the Bengal and Bihar province on 1 April, 1936 after a long struggle of three centuries. Since then, 1 April is marked as Odisha’s foundation day as on this day it became a separated state along with some parts of the Madras Presidency.
The state celebrates the day with a restricted holiday. The day is also known as Odisha Foundation day and Vishuva Milan. On the occasion of Odisha formation Day, competitions are arranged by popular local politicians like fireworks competitions and sing-song program will be organised across the state.
Odisha is famous for its glorious culture and historical significance. There have been repeated mentions of this state in Mahabharata. In ancient history, it has been known by different names like Kalinga, Utakal, Udra, Toshali and Kosala. The state got its new name from the Odra tribe that lived in the central region of Odisha. The state was originally called Orissa but it was renamed after the Lok Sabha passed the Orissa Bill, and Constitution Bill in March 2011.
Odisha people have their classical languages. State animal of Odisha is Sambar deer, bird is Indian roller, and Saraca asoca (Ashoka) is the state flower.
Naveen Patnaik is currently the Chief Minister of Odisha.CM Naveen Patnaik wished the people of Odisha on Utkal Diwas. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and several other dignitaries greeted the people of Odisha on Utkal Dibasa.
