Dadagiri Of Nilagiri Police ,Chained Journalist Over A Minor Dispute ; How Much safe Are The Common People?
Balasore (The Quiver) : A journalist is allegedly arrested and chained by Nilagiri police under Balasore district . It is known that the journalist had not committed any serious crimes , he was intentionally troubled by the police.
As per the reports , this incident occurred following a vehicular accident between the journalist and a home guard. After which the journalist was arrested and tortured by the Nilagiri police , during this torture he got an injury on his waist part .
However, the health condition of the accused deteriorated after which he was admitted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on the same day for treatment. During his treatment on the hospital bed ,his leg was chained by the police.
The journalist was unchained on Thursday following protests by his family members and friends. The accused journalist is Lokanath Dalai of Kanak News.
This action of Nilagiri police criticized by everyone. Senior journalist Manoranjan Mishra posted about this on his twitter handle.
The Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Nilagiri Police Station, Draupadi Das refuted the reports of the police chaining the ailing journalist. Speaking over phone, Das said, “No handcuffs were issued from my station on the said date. My staff were at the station all through the day and night. They were not involved in leg-cuffing the journalist.”
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Nilagiri is looking into the matter and has assured a probe to ascertain who chained the leg of the accused and why.
