HOW APARAJITA ? FROM AN IAS TO A PUBLIC FIGURE

(The Quiver) : Our readers must have heard the famous line Jôdi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase Tôbe Ekla Chôlo Re Written by Rabindra Nath Tagore, the lines sole meaning pivot on a single message which is when no one responds to your call , then walk alone on your own way. Historic leader Subash Chandra Bose had followed the same path and had opted to walk alone for freedom. His action inspired a crowd which led to formation of Azad Hind Fauz.

One popular figure of Odisha in present times is also following the same path and is rightly justifying the above line, she is MP Aparajita Sarangi ,who without relying upon any additional support, has engraved the path for development of Odisha.

Her unusual  journey from an IAS officier to MP was not even but in every situation she managed to stay firm to her principles , be it during her serving period or now, during her second innings in politics.

Aparajita has became a torchbearer of  development in Odisha. Her numerous steps and initiatives taken towards improvement of Odisha has outshined her in general public. Through her transparent works she has touched everyone in the society ,starting  from an illiterate person to most educated ones.

She always has made sure to stand with her commitments and successfully implement them for benefitting people , inspite all the threats she received from higher authorities.

Major actions taken by Aparajita

RESTRICTED BDOs TO STAY IN HEADQUARTERS

In August 1,2012 , when Aparajita was serving as commissioner-cum-secretary in the panchayati raj department, she had issued a notification  on October 4 which stated ,“Under no circumstances, any BDO should be found not staying at block headquarters”; “No PD, DRDA/BDO will come to Bhubaneswar unless called by the panchayati raj department for a meeting here” and “any deviation from this instruction will be seriously viewed and action as deemed proper will be initiated”.

All BDOs were directed to stay in their stations, make regular field visits, listen to and address public grievances. The BDOs could leave their stations only with “special permission” of the collector and “under intimation” to the department. As a result of which the BDOs were bound to closely deal with public issues during the course of their duty.

INTRODUCTION OF SPECIFIC DRESS CODE FOR TEACHERS

She had made a major change in education sector in the year 2010-11 ,when she was hired as secretary in the department of School and Mass Education . To put a check to the unethical teachers who used to move outside during their duty time , she had introduced a dress code and set up a helpline for people to call and complain about the teachers moving outside. The dress code helped for easy identification of the teachers who were undutiful. She faced huge  oppositions to decline her decision , there was a great pressure on government to stop Aparajita but she is not someone to bow down under pressure she took breathe by imposing the rule .

An IAS behind REFORMATING BHUBANESWAR

At BMC , She took the responsibility to make Bhubaneswar more presentable model for many cities to follow .She took actions to remove illegal acquisition and established vending zones , the stalls were replaced by aesthetically pleasing stalls, painted in green, established on roadsides. The vendors were given identity cards too. Spaces were marked out for the pavement as well as shoppers, freeing the roads to carry vehicles , most of public walls were clean and painted . She had to face huge criticism and oppositions for her action but she forcefully imposed it, which is the reason why today we can see a different Bhubaneswar compared to the past one.

FIRST INTRODUCTION OF PPP MODEL IN BHUBANESWAR

She is the first one to start PPP model in Bhubaneswar. She had started working upon many mega projects under PPP mode. Her this initiative was not even free of oppositions, many accused her as a corrupted officier but she had no concern about the allegations.

MISSION SHAKTI  – WOMAN EMPOWERMENT

 Aparajita Sarangi became a household name  during year 2003 and 2006 when she gave a big boost to the chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s project “Mission Shakti”. Mission Shakti  aimed at holistic empowerment of women through the formation of self-help groups (SHGs) – giving women confidence, economic support and training to carryout trade-related activities. As director of the mission, she spread SHGs to all districts, formed SHG federations and provided credit-linking to them with banks for financing various activities(to make women more powerful and independent).

Being influenced by PM Modi ,she entered into politics . Her only motive was to severe for development of Odisha. Her determination to work with transparency took her to harsh paths which tested the depth of her determination and dedication , many times even she got subjected to false accusation as a corrupt officier , business minded woman  but every time her actions proved her intentions.  Her projects and actions had carved the path of development for Odisha and are reasons why Odisha sets an example to be followed by? She is receiving wide appreciation for her deeds and her  vision . She never step back in poking the eyes of government towards their wrongdoings.

Aparajita’s principle of not doing wrong and not letting others to do wrong is well accepted by people. Now she has opposed the biggest mistake of government ,“The Shreemandir heritage corridor project”, she strongly criticized the illegal construction work done and raised question over the purpose of the ongoing work . She has raised her voice high against this illegal activity of state government. She has dragged this issue to the Parliament . The Puri administration banned her democratic rally but she made it possible to reach Shreemandir and led her democratic rally by making favourable arguments which could not be rejected by the Puri administration .

Aparajita has always excelled over public expectations as an honest officier and now is a true leader who is inclined to make a difference to people’s lives with Transparency.
