SRI LANKA CRISIS :PROTEST ERUPTS AT SHELTER BASE OF EX-PM; HELPLINE NUMBERS SET UP FOR INDIANS

(The Quiver): Sri Lanka’s economic breakdown even became worst with the ongoing huge protests . Sri Lanka’s ex-PM Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on Monday and on Tuesday protests erupted at the Trincomalee Naval Base in Sri Lanka after it was known that the former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and some of his family members were taking shelter.

On Monday, clashes broke out in the island nation after supporters of Rajapaksa attacked peaceful anti-government protesters who were demanding his ouster. As per the police, five people died in the violence in the nation on Monday. Violent people set fire on Rajapaksa family’s ancestral home in Hambantota.

As per a media report by NewsWire, after leaving the official residence in Colomba ,the former PM and his family members were sheltered at the naval base , a protest was underway in front of the Trincomalee Naval Base where it was claimed that former PM Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family members were staying.

Helpline numbers are setup for Indians who are struck in Sri Lanka.The country has been facing the worst economic crisis that led to acute shortages of staple food, fuel and power.
