FOREST FIRE EXPLODES SEVERAL LANDMINES ALONG LOC

(The Quiver) : On Wednesday , Several landmines planted along the Line of Control in J&K’s Poonch district have become the unlikely victims of forest fire.

Nearly half a dozen of landmines exploded along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district as a result of forest fire that started across the LOC and spread to the Indian side in the Mendhar district, said the officials on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.

The landmines were deployed to check infiltration from across the LoC.

Evidently , the hot and dry weather prevailing over the region has made conditions favourable for forest fires.

In Rajouri district, another huge fire broke out in the Sunderbandi area near the border which spread to other forest areas, including Ghambhir, Nikka, Panjgraye, Brahamana, Moghala, officials said on Wednesday.

Fire also erupted in Kalakote’s Kalar, Ranthal, Chingi forests.”The fire came from across the border and also spread to LOC areas of Upper Kangdi and Dok Banyad”, an official said.

In Jammu district too, a massive fire was broke out in the agriculture fields along International Border. It spread to the Beli Azmat borer out post (BoP) of the BSF before being brought under control.
