PROPHET ROW VIOLENCE IN RANCHI : 2 DEAD ,PEOPLE WARNED NOT TO STEP OUT
(The Quiver) : During protests, Two people are died and over 20 others got injured as the violence erupted in Ranchi over suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s remark on Prophet Muhammad.
Curfew was imposed in several parts of the Jharkhand’s capital after protesters clashed with police yesterday. The protesters demanded the arrest of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma, whose remarks on Prophet Muhammad have kicked up a storm.
Many shops and establishments remained shut in Ranchi since Friday morning following the protest. Around hundreds of protesters eventually streamed out onto the main road and approached a temple. When police at the scene carried out a baton-charge, the crowd retaliated with stone pelting, resulting in injuries to several police personnel and those caught in the cross fire.To bring the situation under control, Police fired in the air and did lathi-charge to control the mob .
Authorities at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences confirmed that two people brought to the hospital after the riot , succumbed to their injuries. Among the 22 injured, 10 are policemen and the others protesters. Three of the injured are in a critical condition.
City police chief Anshuman Kumar confirmed that two people died of gunshot injuries. “Eight rioters and four policemen have been injured. They are being treated at RIMS and other hospitals. We will first identity those involved in the violence, question them and then arrest them,” he said.
“The situation is under control. Restrictions are in place in the affected areas,” he added.
