INDIA’S PARUL CHAUDHARY BROKE 6 YEAR OLD NATIONAL RECORD

(The Quiver) : Athlete Parul chaudhary broke the national record at the sound running meet in Los Angeles. She became the first athlete from the country to clock a sub-nine minute time in the women’s 3000m event. The 27 year old Chaudhary covered the distance in 8:57.19 seconds to finish third on Saturday night.

She broke Suriya Loganathan ‘s record of 9:04.5 sec, which was set six years ago in New Delhi.

“Congratulations to Parul Chaudhary for breaking the 6-year old NR & setting a new national record in women’s 3000 m with a time of 8:57.19 sec at sunset tour, LA! 1st Indian athlete to clock a sub- 9 minute time in W 3000m” tweeted Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

“Her performance will be a big boost ahead of the world championship @WC Horegon22(3000m steeplechase is her main event) Many congratulations #Indian sports #Athletics,” tweeted SAI media.

Chaudhary was trailing in the 5th spot but soon gained momentum to finish third.

She won a gold in women’s 3000m steeplechase at the nationals held last month in Chennai.
