MUMBAI CITY FC SIGNED ROSTYN GRIFFITHS

(The Quiver): On Sunday,Mumbai City FC completed the signing of defender Rostyn Griffiths, the club announced via a statement.

The 34 year-old joins the Islanders from the fellow city Football Group side and A-league outfit Melbourne City after putting pen to paper on a one-year contract, until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Griffiths was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England. With Adelaide United, he made his A-league debut. Griffiths began his professional career with the then-Premier League club Blackburn Rovers before relocating to Australia to pursue his career.

He later played for North Queensland Fury and Central Coast Mariners, where he enjoyed a very successful tenure and won the Premiers in the 2011–12 season.

After four seasons at Melbourne City, where Buckingham served as assistant coach between 2020 and 2021, the centre defender reunites with head coach Des Buckingham.

The seasoned Englishman won the A-League Premiers and Championship double in the 2020–21 season, as well as playing a role in the club’s first-ever continental AFC Champions League campaign, before winning a second straight Premiers with the Melbourne-based club in 2021–22.

“We have got a solid squad, with a great mix of youth and experience, and I am really excited to be a part of it. I look forward to working with my new teammates, make the passionate fans of Mumbai City proud.” Griffiths said.

“I have worked closely with Rostyn in the past, so I know him quite well. He is a top player and is someone who will bring a lot of experience and character into our team. I believe he can make a impact at Mumbai City.” Des Buckingham, Head Coach of Mumbai City FC said.
