PRESIDENTIAL POLLS; BENGAL BJP MOVES ALL 69 MLAs TO HOTEL OVER FEAR OF CROSS VOTE

(The Quiver): The BJP in Bengal has shifted all its 69 MLAs in the state Assembly to a hotel ahead of the presidential polls tomorrow. The party has put all its MLAs in a 5-star hotel in Kolkata’s New Town area to prevent any cross voting tomorrow.

Officially, the BJP maintained that the MLAs are undergoing a workshop on how to vote in the election tomorrow. The MLAs will be taken directly to the assembly at 8 am tomorrow to vote.

The BJP didn’t want to let its MLAs be pressurized by any party to cross vote in the presidential elections. Similar action has been taken in other states as well.

Presidential polls will be held on July 18 and the result will be declared on July 21, the Election Commission has announced. The counting of votes, if it happens, will be held in Delhi.

“A total of 4,809 electors will vote in the elections. No political party can issue a whip to its members,” CEC Rajiv Kumar said.
