Vedaant Madhavan creates new record in 1500m freestyle

(The Quiver) : Maharashtra’s Vedaant Madhavan broke the men’s 1500m freestyle record for group I boys at the current 48th Junior National Aquatic Championships being held at the Biju Patnaik Swimming Pool in the ionic Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.


Vedaant, who was in the lead and had an effective stroke, timed 16:01.73 to break the previous mark of 16:06.43 seconds set by his fellow statemate Advait Page in 2017. He won the bronze medal ahead of Bengal’s Shubhojeet Gupta (16:34:06) and Karnataka’s Amogh Anand Venkatesh (16:21:98).
Harshika Ramachandra of Karnataka set a new meet record in the 400-meter freestyle for group II girls with a time of 4:29.25 seconds. Rujula S, also of Karnataka, finished ten seconds later with a time of 4:39.53 seconds to take second place.
The 50-meter breaststroke event for girls in group I also set a record. Maharashtra’s Apeksha Fernandes continued to impress by taking home her second gold medal of the competition. Her statemate Zaara Jabbar, who finished in 35.91 seconds, was beaten out for the gold by her amazing time of 33.49 seconds.
Vedaant is the son of Indian actor R. Madhavan.
Madhavan is a proud father as his son Vedaant set a new record at the Junior National Aquatics held in Bhubaneswar. The Rockery actor took to twitter to share his excitement with the world. He wrote,
“Never say never. National Junior Record for 1500m freestyle broken.”
At the end of day two, Karnataka led the medal tally with total of 31 medals, followed by Maharashtra at 17 medals and Telangana with total of 8 medals.
