CAN ODISHA BANDH INFLUENCE THE STATE GOVT. TO PROVIDE JUSTICE TO RUCHIKA?
Can today’s Odisha bandh protest aware the state government to provide justice to Ruchika? Would Ruchika’s case become the last ragging case of Odisha? Will government implement strict actions against those students doing ragging? Or social evil ragging will be continue to force the innocent students towards death?
Bhubaneswar (The Quiver) : On Tuesday, hundreds of students came down to roads supporting Odisha Bandh , demanding justice for Bjb college student Ruchika Mohanty who committed suicide due to alleged ragging by seniors.
Odisha Bandh call given by the student wing of the Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangha. The bandh is called from 6am to 6pm.Meanwhile, the Congress, several business establishments and social outfits have extended their support for the bandh.
Ruchika, who hailed from Athagarh in Cuttack district, was found dead on a bed inside the hostel room of the college with a rope tied around her neck on July 2.
A hand written note was found near Ruchika’s body in the room which was suspected to be written by her . In the note, it has been mentioned that she was under depression after being constantly ragged and tortured by three of her seniors. The trio has been held responsible for the death, in the note.
However, the deceased has not mentioned the names of the students
Although a peaceful Odisha Bandh was called but viewing upon the chances that the youths protest might take up a violent turn , the State government had asked employees of major departments in Bhubaneswar to reach office by 9.30 am.
