26-year old Manisha became First Hindu Women DSP of Pakistan

(The Quiver): Manisha Ropeta is attracting attention for more reasons than just the fact that she is one of the few female officers in senior positions in the Sindh Police, but the fact as she become the first women from Hindu minority to become Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Ropeta, who comes from a middle-class family in the interior Sindh province and lives in Jacobabad, claims she wants to put an end to the idea that young women from respectable homes shouldn’t interact with the police or district courts.

After her father passed away at the age of 13, her mother brought her to Karachi and raised them.

She has three sisters and one younger brother.

“I genuinely  feel that becoming a police officer empowers women and gives them authority.”

“I want to lead the initiative to feminize the police force and promote gender parity. Being a police officer has always motivated and fascinated me.” The DSP said.

“I joined the police because I believe our society needs “protector” women because women are most oppressed and the target of many crimes.” she added.

Ropeta is optimistic that it will play a significant part in improving perceptions of the police, who many people still don’t trust and who are therefore reluctant to report crimes.
