CWG 2022: Weightlifter Mirabai Wins Historic Gold, Bidyarani bags Silver

(The Quiver): 2018 gold medalist, Mirabai Chanu made India proud by winning India’s first Gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

After lifting 109kg properly in the clean and jerk section, she ensured a gold for her.

After successfully completing 113kg in her second attempt, she could not hold to 119kg in the third attempt, but she know she has clinched her second gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.

“I have planned to put on the best show in snatch. I tried to beat the previous best in snatch (her personal best), but I was unable to do so. But I’m thrilled because this is my finest snatch performance till date.” Mirabhai said.

Meanwhile in the Women’s 55kg event, Bindyarani Devi lifted a total weight of 202kg (86 kg + 116 kg) to secure silver medal for India on Saturday.
