Indian Navy Lovepreet Sets National Record To Win Bronze At CWG

(The Quiver): On Wednesday,With a remarkable lift of 355 kg, Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh wins the bronze medal in the 109 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

Hailing from Amritsar, he went on to lift a best of 163 kg in snatch to go with 193 kg clean and Jerk to finish the podium.

Junior Periclex Nyabeyeu of Cameron, who lifted a total of 361 kg, earned the gold medal (160 snatch and 201 clean and jerk). With 358kg Jack Opeloge of Samoa  bagged the silver medal.

In the weightlifting event, he created two national record one each in snatch and one in clean and jerk by pulling all six lifts successfully and effectively.

In the clean and jerk round, after lifting 185kg and 189kg with no difficulty, he smashed his own national record of 192kg in the final effort.

Apart from his profession in weightlifting, Lovepreet Singh works for Indian Navy.

In the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, he went on to win silver medal for India. He even won the bronze medal at the Asian Youth Championship in 2017.
