A Night To Remember For Bajrang, Sakshi and Deepak

(The Quiver): On Friday, A Loud cheer of India was echoing in the Coventry stadium at Birmingham as India’s wrestlers bagged top honours at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Bajrang Punia was the first to clinch the gold against Canada’s Lachlan McNeil 9-2 in the 65-kg category.

After going 4-0 up in the first half, the 28-year-old didn’t give any chance to the Canadian as he took an aggressive approach to win the gold after four years.

Whereas, 29-year-old Sakshi Malik reigned supreme in the women’s Freestyle of 62 kg by defeating Ana Godinez Gonzalez of Canada in the final on Friday.

This was her first gold medal at the CWC level after winning silver (58kg category) in 2014 and bronze (62kg category) in 2018.

The joy in the mat didn’t get over as Indian wrestler Deepak Punia added India’s third gold of the night by beating Muhammad Inam of Pakistan 3-0 in the 86-kg category. At the start, both the wrestlers were taking a defensive approach but the 23-year-old from Chhara was too good for the Inam as he won the gold for India.
