Bomb blast takes 8 lives in Kabul; more than 20 people injured

(The Quiver): On Saturday, a horrific incident occurred in the streets of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul where a bomb blast took 8 lives as the tally of injured list increased to 22. Hospital officials said.

In a place where members of minority Shi’ite Muslim community meet, the incident happened in the western district of the city.

The Sunni jihadist Islamic State (IS) group was held responsible for this act in Kabul.

The attack occurred just before Ashura, a celebration of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was martyred, which is mostly observed by Shi’ite Muslims.

According to estimates, there are between 10 and 20 percent of the 39 million people who are Shi’ites, including Hazaras, Tajiks, and Pashtuns who speak Persian.

Last year, When Sunni Muslim authorities took control of Afghanistan in August, after a two-year conflict, they made sure to provide the Shi’ite community with the best support and protection possible.
