1st Queen Elizabeth II Award bagged by Indian Origin Home Minister

(The Quiver): Suella Braverman, the British Home Secretary of Indian descent, was awarded the inaugural recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Woman of the Year award at a ceremony in London.

After receiving the award, she said: it was the “honour of her life” to take on the new position at the Asian Achievers Awards (AAA) 2022 ceremony.

She dedicated the award to Queen Elizabeth II who passed away recently.

The Goan-origin father Christie Fernandes and Tamil mother Uma’s London-born daughter, Braverman, accepted the prize on her behalf by sending a recorded message at the ceremony.

I was born in Wembley, the centre of the Asian population, and they have been proud members of our Asian community. I was also chosen to serve in the UK Parliament since I was born in Wembley.” The British Minister said.

In recognition of his ground-breaking work in DNA sequencing, Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian was named Professional of the Year.

Karenjeet Kaur Bains, the first female Sikh powerlifter to represent Britain internationally, won Sports Personality of the Year.

Kartar Lalvani, the creator of the well-known health supplement company Vitabiotics in the UK, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“The AAA will continue to serve as the platform to identify, honour and assisting the pioneers, visionaries, and community leaders who will help to create Britain and a better world.” EPG Managing director Pratik Dattani said.
