Belarus Activist Ales Bialiatski wins Nobel Peace Prize 2022; Know More

(The Quiver): Ales Bialiatski, a champion of human rights in Belarus, received the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the Ukrainian Centre for Civil Liberties and Russia human rights memorial.

Ales Bialiatski, a Belarusian who helped launch the nation’s democracy movement in the 1980s, has dedicated his life to advancing democracy and peaceful development.

 Information on political repression and human rights abuses in Russia has been gathered and organised by the human rights organisation Memorial.

Human rights and democracy have been promoted in Ukraine through the Centre for Civil Liberties in Kyiv. The Centre has taken a stance in support of bolstering Ukrainian civil society and putting pressure on the government to establish a fully functional democracy in the country.

The centre has been working to detect and document Russian war crimes against the Ukrainian populace since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The centre is taking a leading role in making sure that those responsible for crimes are held accountable.
