Nine People Arrested by Police in Gujarat Cable Bridge Collapse

(The Quiver): On Monday, in connection with the collapse of the Morbi bridge in Gujarat, which has resulted in 134 deaths till now, the police have arrested nine people which includes two managers of Oreva Group.

“Of the nine people arrested, two are managers of the Oreva company, two ticket clerks, two contractors, and three security guards for carelessness.” said Ashok Yadav, IG Rajkot Range.

As the death is expected to rise, 134 people have died as over 100 people have succumbed to injuries after the suspension bridge collapsed in the Machchhu River in Gujarat.

Around 500 people were present in the bridge after the incident occurred on Sunday. The bridge has the capacity to the weight of 125 people.

For repairs, the bridge across the Machchhu River had been closed for seven months. Without a fitness certification from the local authorities, it was reopened to the public on October 26, the Gujarati New Year.

The state government has declared that each victim’s family will receive Rs. 4 lakhs in compensation, in addition to Rs. 50,000 for those who were injured. The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi also declared that the victim’s families will receive Rs 2 lakh each in financial aid.
