Giridhar Aramane Appointed as New Defence Secretary of India

(The Quiver): On Tuesday, Giridhar Aramane, an Andhra Pradesh cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1988 batch, was appointed new Defence Secretary.

He has previously served as the Cabinet Secretariat’s Additional Secretary, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas’s Exploration Division’s Executive Director, and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority’s Executive Director in charge of inspections.

Previously, he was the secretariat of Road Transport and Highways.

After Ajay Kumar retired on October 31, 2022, Aramane succeeded him as Defence secretary.

“We are motivated by these brave individuals and pledge to endeavour to realise their goal of making India a secure and wealthy nation.” Giridhar Aramane said.

Mr. Aramane previously held the positions of Principal Secretary in the Urban Development Department, Managing Director of the AP State Finance Corporation, and Secretary in the Andhra Pradesh Government (Finance Department).

Mr. Aramane received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad and his master’s degree from IIT in Madras.

He holds an MA in Economics from Kakatiya University in Warangal.
