Nervy England Edge Past Sri-Lanka to Enter Semis

(The Quiver): On Saturday, England registered a four-wicket win over Sri-Lanka to enter the semi finals of the ICC World T20 2022. With that win, the hosts and reigning champions Australia are knocked out of the tournament.

As It Happened

At the iconic ground in Sydney, Sri-Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. After a sedate start provided by the openers, they lost their first wicket with the score of 39 runs. Pathum Nissanka kept the scoring rate moving with his knock of 67 for Sri-Lanka. After scoring 84 runs in the first ten overs, the intend was missing in the second half by the SL batters as they only managed 141 runs on the board.

Mark Wood picked 3 wickets for England.

In reply, England openers Jos Buttler (28) and Alex Hales (47) made a quick start with the bat in the powerplay. England did stutter in the chase after the openers feel to Wahindu Hasaranga. He provided some hope for his team by picking up wickets, as he was well supported by D de Silva and Lahiru Kumara.

Later, Ben Stokes help England win the match with his knock of 42 runs which ensured England made to the semi-finals of ICC World T20 2022.

Adil Rashid was declared Man of the Match for his bowling performance.
