Manika Batra Creates History in Asian Cup TT Tournament

(The Quiver): On Friday, In the women’s singles quarterfinals of the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup, ace shuttler Manika Batra makes history as she defeated Taipei’s Chen Szu Yu by scores of 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, and 11-9 to go to the semifinals.

She become the first women shuttler to qualify for the semis of the tournament.

Batra continued her winning streak after defeating World No. 7 Chen Xingtong in the preliminary round. Manika prevailed with scores of 8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, and 11-9 on November 17.

She also made it to the championship’s final four, becoming the second Indian after Chetan Baboor.

After being thrashed in the first set, Batra battled back to win the next three sets to take the match 3-1.

Szu Yu had steely nerves to tie the score at 3 and force a decisive set. In the decider, Manika prevailed over her opponent to make it to the semi-final of the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup.

The winner of the match between Mima Ito of Japan and Jeon Jihee of Korea will face her next.
