Ronaldo stars as Portugal Beat Ghana 3-2

(The Quiver): On November 24, Cristiano Ronaldo wrote World Cup history as Portugal began its Qatar 2022 campaign with a tense 3-2 victory over Ghana in a thrilling Group H match at Stadium 974.

Ronaldo gave Portugal a 1-0 lead against Ghana in the 65th minute by converting a penalty kick to become the first player to score in five World Cups. In the 73rd minute, Andre Ayew of Ghana restored parity.

Joao Felix gave Portugal the advantage again, and then Ronaldo displayed his talent with a jinking run and a pass to Rafael Leao that left Ghana in disbelief.

Later, Osman Bukari scored a second goal for Ghana in injury time, but Portugal held on to win the opening match of the World Cup for the first time in their previous four appearances.

Since making his debut in 2006, Ronaldo has scored one goal at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, another at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and four goals at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Additionally, Ronaldo increased his total to 118 goals for men’s international play.

With this close win, Portugal will now face Uruguay on Monday.
