CM ACTION AGAINST CYBER CRIMINALS

(The Quiver) The chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik inaugurated 14 Police Stations that will investigate cybercrime and economic offences in the State. The Cm was joined by Minister of State for Home Shri Dibya Shankar Mishra, Secretary to CM (5-T) Shri V.K. Pandian , Chief Secretary Shri Suresh Chandra Mohapatra ,DGP Shri Abhay who gave the welcome address , and senior officers were also present on the occasion.

Addressing to the people of Odisha on this inauguration ceremony he said , “Cyber Crimes have been rapidly emerging as a dominant crime in society. What makes it more worrisome is that it is anonymous, and not restricted by jurisdictional boundaries. Since the source of information is invariably based in servers existing in foreign countries, collection of evidence against the perpetrators becomes really challenging”.

“These Police Stations will have trained police men and technical experts. They will be equipped with all the latest hardware and software required for investigating economic and cyber offences”, quoted the CM.

   The Chief Minister also inaugurated 3 Upgraded Police Stations.  While the first upgraded police station has been opened at Info Valley Special Economic Zone, the second has been opened at Bayalis Mouza under Cuttack Urban Police District, and the third has been located at Pahal under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District. These Police Stations will fulfill the longstanding demands of the citizens of the area and will strengthen policing in the sub-urban areas of the twin city.

Minister of State for Home Shri Dibya Shankar Mishra also expressed confidence that the new Police Stations will be able to contain cyber and economic offences.

Digital platform uses vigorously increased in present times. We all are living in digital India. A wide range of people came across digital platforms and started using it more in the covid-19 pandemic times marked in past two years. Covid-19 will always be remembered as one of the worst real nightmares to have ever occurred in history of world. As we know everything has a lighter sight too so is covid-19 in India. Covid -19 made India digital even a common man is now using digital platforms completing most of his daily works like online shopping, e- registration for vaccinations, e-travels bookings, e- paying of his bills (electric bills), e -food ordering and e- bookings, and many more. But digital India is not free of crimes especially the cyber-crimes in digital platforms. The cyber criminals are active in trapping common people. Everyday many common people are looted by these criminals in various ways.

These criminals confidently committing these crimes as no sufficient cyber polices are hired to stop them or catch their crimes. According to the latest Crime in India 2020’ report of the National Crime Records Bureau, Odisha saw a 30% jump in cybercrimes compared to 2019 with many unsuspecting people falling victim to such crimes during online payment and UPI transactions. A total of 1,931 incidents of cybercrime were reported in 2020. The rate of cybercrime was 4.2 per lakh population in Odisha, higher than the national rate of 3.7.

Hope this initiative taken by the CM will show positive results in present times. Thus, decreasing the cyber-crimes rates in the state. The cyber policies hired will put a check to cyber criminals and cybercrimes.
