SUNIL KUMAR BANSAL , THE NEW DGP OF ODISHA

(The Quiver) IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal today took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha from the former DGP Abhay. Sunil Kumar Bansal taken up charge as the chief of the Odisha Police at the State Police Headquarters, Cuttack by receiving the guard of honour.

Former DGP Abhay’s tenure as the top cop ended today. He was earlier scheduled to retire in June, this year. However, his tenure was later extended till December 31, 2021 by the State Government.

 Bansal’s name was among the three names sent by Odisha government to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for appointment as state DGP. The other two police officers were 1988 batch officer Manoj Chhabra, who is posted as head of State Armed Police, and 1986-batch IP S officer Pradip Kapoor, who is posted as advisor (scientific) of national technical research organisation (NTRO).

Bansal was serving as the Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB). Before this he was superintendent of police in Odisha districts such as Dhenkanal, Angul and Mayurbhanj.

 Sunil Bansal on completing his graduation in Commerce became a chartered accountant then he opted for a career in law enforcement. He also holds a degree in law.
