NO GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE CAN PARTICIPATE IN STRIKE

Thiruvananthapuram(The Quiver) : The Kerala high court on Monday restricted government employees from participating in the 48-hour nationwide Bharat Bandh called by trade unions. The court directed Kerala government to issue an order on this immediately.

The court stated government employees do not come under the range of workers and their participation in the strike is against service rules.

Chief Justice Shaji P Chaly said  the government employees participation in strike is unconstitutional and those employees who will participate in strike will be considered ineligible for payment. The court directed the government to declare no work, no pay but employees who were earlier considered to be on leave will be given full pay.

All India Trade Union Congress leader K P Rajendran called the court’s observation unfortunate. He added it should have issued directions to the Union government and not the poor workers.
