International Transgender Day Of Visibility 2022 : Penalty Without Offence

(The Quiver) : Do we have any role behind being like this? If not then why our identity is questioned upon? why are we not treated like human beings ? why are we deprived from receiving basic human rights? what if you would have been born like one of us? our readers must have got an idea about whom are we talking. Yes, they are transgender and these are their questions to whom our society look in a different way.

They are the most ignored category of humans. Although their position in our society have got improved in present times but still some sections of transgender are still ignored and developments still needed to be done for making their living better.

Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of visibility to raise awareness about transgender people of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society.

Most members of the transgender community are invisible in society, either by choice or out of fear of discrimination. This invisibility, on the other hand, enhances the community’s vulnerability by allowing prejudice, violence, and other issues to go unrecognized, unreported, or presumed to be for other reasons.

One transgender had once spoke upon such cruelty, when she was ill .she went to hospital but neither the ladies nor the gents allowed her to stand in the queue. The doctor also denied to examine her.

Some transgender shown great courage to fight against the injustices and succeed in achieving their goals. This day celebrates and honors their work, the losses they’ve endured, and the successes they’ve achieved.

Naaz Joshi is India’s first transgender international beauty queen, a trans rights activist and a motivational speaker. Joshi won Miss World Diversity beauty pageant three times in a row. She is India’s first transgender cover model.

Aishwarya Rutuparna Pradhan is India’s first openly transgender civil servant, working in the Odisha Financial Services as a commercial tax officer. Pradhan successfully joined the OFS in 2010 as Ratikanta Pradhan.

Transgender activists from Odisha, Meera Parida and Sadhana Mishra, received the first National Transgender Award for being path-breakers and working for the welfare of the community. Many more are their but unfortunately the list will be too long . We salute to all of them.

In India, total population of transgender is around 4.88 Lakh as per 2011 census. As per our estimation, Odisha has 20,000 to 25,000 transgender population.

Many transgender are talented but they are down-trodden by the society. They are judged and discriminated basing upon their sex and are assumed as useless.

Its high time we need to break our stereotype mind setup towards transgender. They do not need our sympathy but their dignity. The society should recognize them by their position not by their gender. They should be given proper education , medical facilities and all the basic rights which I and you are enjoying.

Lets take a step forward to improve their lives and respect them . From now on whenever you come across a transgender think she is one of us and ensure we don’t out our trans friends from our society.

On global level ,Joe Biden officially proclaimed March 31, 2021, as a Transgender Day of Visibility.

The San Francisco metropolitan area has a higher percentage of adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) than any other city in the country.

We can join local Transgender Day of Visibility events and support different trans-led organizations. The goal of the International Transgender Day of Visibility is to raise awareness of transgender people, and at the same time educate individuals about the community by giving proper sex education to students.
