VIOLENCE ON RAM NAVAMI ,COMMUNAL CLASHES IN 4 STATES LEAD TO A DEATH

(The Quiver) : On the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday, communal clashes were marked in four states of the country. Violence erupted in parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh , Jharkhand and West Bengal.

In Gujarat, one person was killed after a clash broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami procession in Khambhat city.

Violence lead to imposition of section 144 in Khargone city of Madhya Pradesh ,  incidents of arson and stone-pelting during a Ram Navami procession were reported from Madhya Pradesh. Similar clashes occurred in parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal as well.

VIOLENCE IN PARTS OF GUJARAT

one person was killed and another injured in a clash during a Ram Navami procession in Khambhat . Some shops were set on fire as well. To bring situations under control , the police used tear gas .

“The body of an unidentified man, who appears to be around 65 years old, was recovered from the spot in Khambhat, where two groups pelted each other with stones after a clash broke out between them during a Ram Navami procession late this afternoon,” said Superintendent of Police Ajeet Rajyan.

In Himmatnagar, vehicles and shops were damaged due to clash between two communities. Additional security forces were deployed in the area.

“Two groups clashed and pelted each other with stones over a Ram Navami procession. During the melee, some persons were hit by stones. But the situation was brought under control in some time,” said Vishal Vaghela, Sabarkantha’s Superintendent of Police.

VIOLENCE IN PARTS OF MADHYA PRADESH

In Khargone of Madhya Pradesh, “stones were pelted at a Ram Navami procession, lead the police to fire tear gas shells to control the situation”, Khargone Additional Collector Sumer Singh Mujalde said.

“The pelting of stones triggered arson and torching of some vehicles and houses”, a senior official said. Three police personnel got injured during the clash.

Following the incident, curfew was imposed in the entire Khargone city on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The citizens were asked not to step out except in the case of medical emergencies.

 

VIOLENCE IN PARTS OF WEST BENGAL

A Ram Navami procession in West Bengal’s Howrah was allegedly attacked on Sunday. Police investigated the incident and a large deployment of security forces has been stationed.

Opposition political party BJP has alleged that the Ram Navami procession was attacked by the police. The police have asked residents in Howrah to exercise restraint when posting information about the incident on social media.

VIOLENCE IN PARTS OF JHARKHAND

In Jharkhand’s Bokaro, some youngsters were on their way to join a Ram Navami procession on a bike when they got into a fight with a group and were attacked with stones by them. The police said the matter has been settled and peace restored.

In Lohardaga, four people were injured and ten motorcycles as well as a pick-up van burnt after a clash erupted during a Ram Navami procession. As per information received, people of one community allegedly pelted those involved in the procession with stones. Those attacked then retaliated.

A huge deployment of police forces has been stationed at the spot. The situation was tense and there was a demand for the arrest of those involved in the clash.
