JOHNSON RECEIVES GUARD OF HONOUR ; MEETS MODI TO TALK ON RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: KNOW IN DETAIL

New Delhi (The Quiver) : On Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

The British prime minister landed in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Thursday, commencing his two-day visit to India. After his visit to PM Modi’s home state, Johnson was welcomed by PM Modi in New Delhi.Johnson will be holding a bilateral meeting with Modi later in the day.

Johnson laid a wreath at the Raj Ghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi , he recieved the guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“Thank you for the fantastic welcome. This is a very auspicious moment between a relationship and friendship between two democracies. I don’t think the things have ever been as strong or as good between us (India-UK) as they are now,” UK PM Boris Johnson stated upon his arrival at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“The world faces growing threats from autocratic states which seek to undermine democracy, choke off free trade and trample on sovereignty,” he stated, adding that the UK’s partnership with India “is a beacon in stormy seas,” reported news agency PTI.

“The India-UK relationship, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021, is all set to forge ahead with this visit,” the Ministry of External Affairs said on Twitter, sharing photos.

The two PMs are scheduled to hold a meeting shortly, expected to discuss on the economic and defence partnership between the countries. The Russia-Ukraine war, security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and climate change are also likely to be tabled during the meeting.

“Looking forward to meeting with my friend Narendra Modi today in New Delhi. From climate change to energy security to defence, the partnership of our democracies is vital as the world faces growing threats from autocratic states,” Johnson had tweeted ahead of the meeting with Modi.

The UK Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold talks with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. This is Johnson’s maiden visit to India as prime minister of the United Kingdom.
