ASANI ARRIVING COASTAL ANDHRA ; HOW MUCH PREPARED IS ODISHA GOVERNMENT ?
Bhubaneswar (The Quiver) : Severe cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over Southeast and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal currently is at a distance about 570 km southwest of Puri and about 490 km south-southwest of Gopalpur. As reported by IMD ,Asani will be moving along coastal Andhra Pradesh and weaken into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday morning.
Odisha government on viewing the arrival of Asani restricted people from going near sea .Especially the fishermen are strictly warned from entering into sea .People living close to sea are transferred to safe places. Odisha government has banned people from visiting beaches for two days.
Odisha Government has geared up its preparation to deal with the damage to be made by Asani . South Odisha is prone to experience cyclonic effect. As reported by The Directorate of Fire services, 10-Rescue teams are prepositioned at OFDRA BBSR to meet the post cyclonic exigencies at BHUBANESWAR City. Besides, 18-Fire Pumps (Dewatering)Teams have been formed for dewatering in the City as per the requirement of BMC.

The national disaster response force (NDRF), civil defence and police have been kept ready in the coastal districts. The state administration has been cautioning people and fishermen to stay away from the sea for the next three days, sources said. In South 24 Parganas district’s Sundarbans, Patharpratima, Gosaba and Namkhana, the state government has urged people living in mud houses and low-lying areas to move to school buildings.
