ODISHA FOOTBALL CLUB LAUNCHED ITS WOMEN’S TEAM

Bhubaneswar (The Quiver) : Odisha Football Club announced launch of women’s team on auspicious Rath Yatra Day.

On Rath Yatra, Odisha FC started a new Journey. The Indian Super league (ISL) side choose the most celebrated day to announce the launch of their senior women’s team. The club released a video to mark their entry into the women’s team.

The Bhubaneswar based side has roped in A-licensed coach and former player Crispin Chettri as their first head coach of the women’s team. Chettri has a amazing season for the Sethu FC as head coach, ending his stint with the Madurai Based club as runners up in the Indian women’s League recently.
“This one is for the dreamersโ€ฆ Odisha FC women.. Her Game is our pride #Odisha FC #AmaTeamAmaGame #OFC Women,” Odisha FC tweeted alongside a video.

After long delay due to pandemic COVID-19, the club brought in experienced football administrator and former general manager of fellow ISL club North East United FC, Randeep Baruah to structure Women’s football.
Odisha FC will participate in the next Odisha women’s league and will try out to come out winners in order to qualify for the IWL through the state qualifiers, as they will face stiff competition against Odisha Police, new comers Sports Odisha who participated in the India Women’s league recently.

The club aims to be a competitive side not only in state, but also in Asian women’s context.
“We are very proud and delighted to launch the Odisha FC women’s team. The club is totally dedicated in providing a pathway for local girls to play the beautiful game and hope our club can help grow in the women’s game in the state of Odisha”. Raj Athwal said.

Randeep Baruah who is currently the head of academy and women’s football at Odisha FC, was working for months behind the scenes, culminating in today’s announcement that the club is ready for its maiden professional season.
