New Delhi (The Quiver): Indian fans alleged racist abuses faced by them during the fifth Test match between England and India. Many took to Twitter to complain about the incident after failing to get any support from the stewards at the ground. They found a response by the cricket board.

The England Cricket Board alongside the authorities of Edgbaston Cricket Ground are investigating the alleged racist abuses faced by Indian fans. The racist abuse was directed at the section of spectators during Day 4 of the rescheduled fifth and final test between England and India test match at Edgbaston.

Bharat Army, an event organiser based out of England took to the twitter and narrated the abuse faced at Block 22 of the Eric Hollies stand where they were alleged abused with racial slur.

“Sad to say many of our members experienced racist abuse from a very small minority of individuals. We will work with Edgbaston to share all your feedback,” they wrote on Twitter.

Former Yorkshire spinner Azeem Rafiq shared a thread detailing some the incidents and wrote they were, “disappointing to read.”

“I’m gutted by these reports as we’re working hard to make Edgbaston a safe, welcoming environment for all,” Stuart Cain, chief executive at Edgbaston, said on Monday.

Nobody should be subject to any form of Racial abuse at Edgbaston. So, once we’ve got all the facts, we will make sure this issue is addressed swiftly.

The incident brought back ugly memories from India’s tour of Australia in 2020/21, under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, where the team was given an option to stage a walkout after getting abused by a section of the fans. At the time, the authorities at the Sydney Cricket Ground removed six spectators from the stand.

The rescheduled fifth test will resume on Tuesday, with England needed 119 runs on the final day for a series-leveling victory.
