BCCI TO FINALLY SEEK FIFTH SELECTOR REPLACEMENT

BY Bibhu Ray

(The Quiver): The national senior selector committee’s fifth selector, which has open since February, will shortly be filled as the Board of Control for India (BCCI) issues a call for candidates. Abey Kuruvilla, a former fast bowler for India, has served on the board’s cricket committees for a total of five years until his stint on those committees came to an end at the beginning of the year.

“We will have (Abey) Kuruvilla’s replacement soon; probably in the next two weeks, we will have a new selector in place,” a BCCI official told.

The new BCCI constitution stipulates that no cricket committee member may hold office for a period of time exceeding five years. Previously, the junior selection committee was led for four years by Abey Kuruvilla. He is presently the BCCI’s general manager (game development).

The other four senior selectors are Chairman Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Debashish Mohanty. They selected the Indian team without a fifth teammate for the home series against Sri Lanka in February and March. This was followed by the tours of Ireland and England, as well as the impending West Indies trip.

The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which will select the fifth selector, has also been without a member since October of last year.

The CAC initially had three members before Madan Lal, the committee’s head, resigned at the age of 70.

According to the new constitution, anyone above 70 is not permitted to occupy within the board.

The two-member CAC, made up of Sulakshana Naik and R.P Singh proposed Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach. BCCI has not yet found a successor for Madan lal’s replacement.
