(The Quiver): The Bangladeshi pace bowler Shohidul Islam, has been banned from all forms of cricket for ten months by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The 27-year-old will be able to resume playing on March 28, 2023, thanks to the backdating of the suspension to May 28.

He has pleaded guilty for breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC’s Anti-Doping test.Shohidul who has represented Bangladesh in a solitary T20I, had provided his urine sample as part of the ICC’s out of-competition testing programme in Dhaka on March 4. Tests revealed the presence of Clomifene, classified as a Specified Substance which is part of the WADA’s prohibiting list.

The ICC, which handed out suspension, clarified that Shohidul had “accidentally swallowed the prohibited substance in the form of a medicine that he had been legitimately prescribed for therapeutic purposes.”

Shohidul also testified that he had no intention to use the prohibited substance for performance enhancement.
The pacer had taken a medicine for personal reasons but later it was found that it contained the prohibited substance that led to breach of ICC anti-doping conduct. BCB chief Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

Shohidul has been a member of various Bangladesh squads over the past 18 months, including the one T20I match he made against Pakistan in Dhaka last year. In addition to his 69 wickets from 46 T20s, he has 93 wickets from 35 first-class matches and a century to his name. He received praise earlier this year for bowling Comilla Victorians to their third BPL championship. Shohidul is considered one of the bright-fast bowling prospects in Bangladesh.
