World Athletics Championship 2022: Yulimar Rojas claims third straight triple jump gold

(The Quiver) : On Monday, Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas underlined her status as queen of the triple jump after Olympic champion jumped 15.47 meters to win a third straight world title.
Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts collected her second consecutive world silver with the best of 14.89m on the first try, leaping from the sand on her final attempt and running to the stands to hug her supporters.


Roja was the first of three female two-time Olympic champions to strike gold in Eugene.
Roja who bettered her own record in March with 15.74m and is the first women to win the triple jump outdoor championship three times, smiled broadly as the Venezuelan national anthem was played at the Hayward Field.
American Tori Franklin took bronze, the United States first world medal in the world’s event.
Experience paid off on Day Four of competition at Hayward Field in Oregon as several gold medalists from the Tokyo Olympics improved on their performances in the Japanese capital by winning more podium spots.

Belgium’s Nafi Thiam earlier claimed a last-gasp victory in the heptathlon over Dutch rival Anouk Vetter, while imperious Faith Kipyegon of Kenya won her second 1500m title.
Meanwhile, Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar won a thriller of a high jump competition for his third world title.

There was more gold for Arab world in the shape of Morroco’s Soufiane El Bakkali, the Olympic Champion producing a tactical masterclass to win gold as he brought an end to Kenya’s 15 dominance in 3000m steeplechase in the World Athletics Championship 2022.
