PM Modi Announces 44th Chess Olympiad Open in Chennai

(The Quiver): At a glittering event at the sizable Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially began the FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, five-time chess champion Viswanathan Anand, and many more.

“India is hosting the Chess Olympiad at an important juncture in its history, which marks 75 years of independence from colonial rule.” In athletics, “there are winners and there will be winners in the future. PM Modi said.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi was given a warm welcome with musical and percussion performances along the way.

Viswanathan Anand, a five-time global chess champion, gave Modi and Stalin the Olympic torch. At that time, the torch was at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

There were performances of all eight classical Indian dance genres: Kathak, Odissi, Kuchupudi, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, Sattriya, and Bharathanatyam.

Notable actor Rajnikanth marked his presence at the indoor stadium.

The stadium was filled with cheers as teams from numerous nations, including Japan, China, Australia, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Austria, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, and Barbados, were welcomed.
