20-year old Achinta Broke 313kg Record To Win Historic Gold
(The Quiver): To fulfill his father’s last wish and elder brother unfulfilled dreams, 20-year old Achinta Sheuli won India its third gold in men’s 73 division at the NEC hall in Solihull.
He managed to perfect a clean and jerk of total 313kg (143kg+170kg) which highlighted his memorable debut at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
“It was difficult, but I managed to make it simpler by failing to perform a proper lift on my second effort, which led to a difficult struggle. I did my best despite Vijay Sir’s encouragement to perform better.” He said.
Erry Hidayat Muhammad of Mayasia won the silver medal in the 303 kg combined weight category (138kg+165kg).
The bronze medalist was Shad Darsigny of Canada, who weighed 298 kg overall (135 kg+163 kg).
To pull his family out of the family misery, it was Achinta’s dedication and hard work that prevailed him with a gold medal and a possible government job from the state government is a certainly for him.
The weightlifting team from India has won now six medals overall with the gold from Sheuli.
