Nitu Ghanghas and Amit Panghal Bagged Top Honours For India
(The Quiver): On Sunday, In the finals of the Men’s Over 48kg-51kg and Women’s Over 45kg-48kg events, respectively, superstar Indian boxers Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghanghas won historic gold for India.
Amit defeated England’s Kiaran Macdonald while 21-year-old Nitu Ghanghas defeated Demie-Jade Resztan of England.
In the women’s 45kg-48kg event, she was in full flow and punching her way to victory. After winning two gold medals in Youth World Championships, this is her first Gold in a major event.
Later on, silver medallist of 2018, Panghal was up to the task as he outpunched his counterpart from England to win by 5-0 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, P.V Sindhu won her semi-final match by defeating Singapore’s Yeo Min 21-19-21-17.
Indian Women’s Hockey team led by Savita Punia defeated New-Zealand 2-1 in a penalty shootout clash to win bronze medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
