Mohammad bin Salman appointed as Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia

(The Quiver): On Tuesday, the appointment of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as prime minister was made official by a royal decree from Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Previously serving as both the deputy prime minister and the defence minister for King Salman, Mohammed bin Salman has been the kingdom’s de facto leader for a number of years.

Since 2017, Prince Mohammed, who turned 37 this month, has been in line to succeed his father as king.

In 2015, he was appointed defence minister, which was a crucial step in a quick consolidation of power that saw him assume control of important portfolios.

Following his appointment as crown prince in June 2017, Prince Mohammad Bin Salman oversaw the Gulf nation’s most profound shift in its contemporary history and silenced all challengers.
