PM Modi Announces Nation’s First Solar-powered Village; Know More

(The Quiver): On Sunday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Modhera, in Gujarat’s Mohsana district, which is headed to the polls, as the nation’s first solar-powered village.

From October 9 to 11, Prime Minister Modi will be in Gujarat for three days. The prime minister visited Modhera on his first day in office and proclaimed it to be the country’s first hamlet to generate net renewable energy.

We will now start selling electricity and making money from it rather than paying for it. Up until recently, the government provided electricity to the people, but now people will be allowed to generate their own electricity. PM Modi said.

After using the solar energy, the people of Modhera would be saving 60% to 100% electricity bills.

Through a solar power project coupled with Battery Electricity Storage System (BESS) at Sujjanpura in Mehsana, roughly 6 km from the Sun Temple, the central and Gujarat governments started the solarization of Modhera Sun Temple and town to offer 24/7 solar energy.

For the construction of this project, the Gujarati government has allocated 12 hectares of land.

PM Narendra Modi also mentioned that Modhera will be known as Suryagram.
