Curran Swings England Towards Comfortable win in Perth

(The Quiver): On Saturday, Sam Curran’s 5 wicket haul ensured England registered a clinical win against Afghanistan in Perth. They won the contest with 5 wickets remaining to pick up their first points in Group 1 of ICC World T20 2022.

As It Happened

After sending Afghanistan to bat first, they lost two early wickets inside 7 overs of the match. Contributions from Ibrahim Zadran (32) and Usman Ghani (30) took them towards 112 runs. Sam Curran finished with figures of 5 for 10 runs.

Ben Stokes and Mark Wood also picked up 2 wickets each.

In reply, England began their chase in a sedate manner, as they were playing percentage cricket with no issues of the asking run rate. Afghanistan bowlers did give a fight by picking up wickets but England had the upper hand with Liam Livingstone (29) completing the formalities to give England a win in Perth Stadium.

“There are always a few nerves before the competition. The majority of our games have been cricket. There is a lot of eagerness. It’s amazing to get out there and grab a win. A significant aspect of this game is fielding. It was an excellent effort.” England Captain Jos Buttler said after the match.

Sam Curran was adjusted Man of the Match for his fifer.
