Stoinis Blitz give Australia First Points in Perth

(The Quiver): On Tuesday, Marcus Stoinis blistering knock of 59* help Australia beat Sri-Lanka in Perth. They won the match with 21 balls remaining in Group 1 match of ICC World T20 2022.

As It Happened

After sending Sri-Lanka in to bat, the Lankan batters made a sedate start with the bat after losing K. Mendis early. P. Nissanka scored 40 runs and D. de silva consolidated in the other end with 26 runs. The Aussie bowlers knew the conditions well as they kept the scoring rate in check in the middle overs.

 Later, Charith Asalanka’s breezy cameo of 38 runs took Sri lanka to 157-6.  

In reply, Australia lost David Warner early in the innings for 11 runs. Aaron Finch didn’t look comfortable in the middle with 31* but he was supported by Mitchell Marsh (17) and Glenn Maxwell (23). After losing B. Fernando early, Sri-lanka was struggling as their main bowler W. Hasaranga went for 53 runs in the three overs.

Later, Marcus Stoinis announced his arrival with a gem of knock of 59* runs of 18 balls with a strike rate of 327.78. His innings included 4 fours and 6 sixes, which helped Australia won the match with 7 wickets in hand.

Marcus Stoinis was adjusted Man of Match.
